A Grand Dame of Bucharest
If hotels could tell stories, the Athénée Palace would have enough for several books. Overlooking Revolution Square and the Romanian Athenaeum, this legendary hotel has welcomed royalty, politicians, artists and travellers for more than a century. Today it combines beautifully restored historic interiors with the comfort and service expected from InterContinental, making it my favourite place to stay in Romania’s vibrant capital.

A Personal Note

I stayed at two different hotels during my visit to Bucharest, but the InterContinental Athénée Palace Bucharest was, without question, my favourite.

From the moment I arrived, everything felt special. The welcome was warm and professional, the service was exceptional throughout my stay, and there was an unmistakable sense of history and elegance that made the hotel far more than just a place to sleep.

Perfectly positioned overlooking Revolution Square and directly opposite the magnificent Romanian Athenaeum, it’s an ideal base for exploring the city on foot. After a day wandering Bucharest’s grand boulevards, charming Old Town and fascinating museums, returning to the comfort of the Athénée Palace felt like coming home.

If you’re planning a long weekend in Romania’s capital and want to treat yourself, I honestly can’t think of a better choice. Combining over a century of history with beautifully restored interiors, luxurious rooms and outstanding service, it’s a hotel that makes your city break feel like a truly memorable occasion.

It’s one of those rare hotels where the experience is every bit as impressive as the destination itself, and one I’d happily return to whenever I visit Bucharest again.
