Discover Costa Rica from a completely different perspective on this guided small-group cycling holiday. The route takes you from the Central Valley and the volcanic highlands to the wildlife-rich waterways of Tortuguero, beneath Arenal Volcano and finally across Guanacaste towards the Pacific.
And it isn’t all about time in the saddle. There are wildlife cruises, volcanic hot springs, lava-field walks, Costa Rican cooking and a sunset catamaran cruise along the way.

The cycling combines paved and gravel roads, with quieter routes used wherever possible. Daily rides are generally around 30–54km, making this an active holiday while still leaving time to experience Costa Rica away from the bike.

🌋 Irazú Volcano
Visit Costa Rica’s highest volcano before an exhilarating ride down through the volcanic highlands towards Turrialba.
🐒 Tortuguero National Park
Swap two wheels for a boat and journey into Tortuguero’s network of jungle waterways. Look for monkeys, caimans, iguanas and tropical birdlife before spending two nights at a rainforest lodge.
🌋 Arenal & La Fortuna
Cycle through the countryside beneath Arenal Volcano, soothe tired legs in naturally heated volcanic pools and walk across old lava deposits from Arenal’s 1968 eruption.
🍴 A Taste of Costa Rica
Join a local chef for a hands-on cooking experience, preparing traditional Costa Rican dishes before sitting down together to enjoy the results.
🚴 Lake Arenal & Guanacaste
Follow the shores of Lake Arenal before the scenery changes again as you enter Guanacaste’s drier landscapes and rural farming country.
🌊 The Pacific Coast
The final stages take you towards Liberia, Playa Carrillo and the beautiful Nicoya Peninsula, with quiet coastal rides and a sunset catamaran cruise before returning to San José.
Cycling Costa Rica – February 2027 Departure

Your Journey
Days 1–3 | San José & Volcano Country
Arrive in San José before beginning your cycling adventure through the beautiful Orosí Valley. Continue into Costa Rica’s volcanic highlands, visiting Irazú Volcano and enjoying a spectacular descent towards Turrialba.
Days 4–5 | Tortuguero
Cycle into the Caribbean lowlands before continuing by boat into remote Tortuguero. Spend a full day exploring the national park’s wildlife-rich waterways and relaxing at your jungle lodge.
Days 6–8 | Arenal & Lake Arenal
Cycle towards La Fortuna and relax in volcanic hot springs. Ride beneath Arenal Volcano, walk across historic lava fields and enjoy a Costa Rican cooking experience before continuing along Lake Arenal.
Days 9–10 | Guanacaste
The landscape changes as you cycle into Costa Rica’s tropical dry-forest region, travelling through rural communities and farming country towards Liberia and the Pacific.
Days 11–13 | Pacific Coast & Nicoya Peninsula
Enjoy scenic coastal cycling through the Nicoya Peninsula, including Playa Carrillo and the area around Nosara. Celebrate the adventure with a sunset catamaran cruise before completing your final ride and returning to San José.
Day 14 | San José
Your Costa Rican cycling adventure comes to an end.
