🇨🇭 Switzerland: A Licence to Explore

Switzerland has provided James Bond with some of his most spectacular Alpine backdrops — from Blofeld’s mountain fortress high above Mürren to winding roads, frozen peaks and dramatic ski chases.

Across several Bond films, 007 has travelled through the Swiss Alps, driven the legendary Furka Pass, jumped from the Verzasca Dam, skied through the mountains and found himself surrounded by some of Europe’s most extraordinary scenery.

But Switzerland is about far more than Bond. 🏔️

Follow 007’s footsteps to Piz Gloria, Furka Pass, Verzasca Dam, St Moritz and Piz Palü, then stay awhile to discover the Switzerland beyond the screen — scenic rail journeys, mountain villages, crystal-clear lakes, hiking trails, winter sports, delicious food and, of course, plenty of Swiss chocolate. 🍫

Whether you’re planning a dedicated Bond-inspired adventure, a scenic Alpine road trip, a winter escape or an unforgettable Swiss rail journey, there’s a whole country waiting to be explored.

Bond came for the missions. You can come for the mountains. 🐸🇨🇭

🏔️ Piz Gloria — Blofeld’s Mountain Fortress

Perched high above Mürren on the Schilthorn, Piz Gloria became Blofeld’s mountain headquarters in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

The spectacular revolving restaurant and surrounding Alpine landscape provided the setting for Bond’s infiltration of the villain’s lair, as well as some memorable ski and action sequences.

Today, you can travel by cable car to Piz Gloria and enjoy 360° views across the Bernese Alps — without needing to infiltrate SPECTRE. 😉

🚗 Furka Pass — Goldfinger

Few Bond roads are as spectacular as the Furka Pass.

In Goldfinger, Bond follows Goldfinger through the Swiss Alps, with the legendary mountain road providing a breathtaking backdrop for the Aston Martin DB5.

The winding route climbs through dramatic Alpine scenery, with glaciers, mountain peaks and hairpin bends making it an unforgettable journey even without 007 behind the wheel.

🎿 St Moritz — The Spy Who Loved Me

Switzerland’s glamorous Alpine resort of St Moritz featured in The Spy Who Loved Me, bringing Bond into one of the world’s most famous winter playgrounds.

The surrounding mountains provided spectacular scenery for the film’s skiing sequences, combining Bond’s trademark action with some seriously impressive Alpine landscapes.

Today, St Moritz offers far more than skiing — from luxury hotels and winter sports to hiking, lakeside scenery and spectacular mountain railways.

🧗 Verzasca Dam — GoldenEye

The towering Verzasca Dam near Locarno provided the spectacular setting for the opening of GoldenEye.

Bond’s famous bungee jump from the top of the dam became one of the franchise’s most recognisable opening sequences.

The real experience is considerably less dramatic — but the turquoise waters, steep valley and surrounding Ticino scenery make this an impressive stop on a Swiss adventure.

🏂 Piz Palü — A View to a Kill

The spectacular Piz Palü and surrounding Swiss Alps feature in the winter action of A View to a Kill, standing in for the icy landscapes of Siberia.

Snow-covered peaks, glaciers and vast Alpine scenery provide a dramatic backdrop for one of Bond’s high-speed ski sequences.

Away from the movies, the region is a paradise for mountain adventures, with skiing, hiking, glaciers and some extraordinary views.

🚞 Beyond Bond — The Swiss Alps

Travel through the Alps by scenic railway, take a mountain cable car, hike beside turquoise lakes or simply settle into a traditional Alpine village and enjoy the view.

From the Bernese Oberland and Engadin Valley to Ticino and the spectacular mountain passes, Switzerland is made for slow travel and spectacular journeys.
