Santorini – Greece’s Most Iconic Island

Santorini is one of the world’s most recognisable destinations, famous for its whitewashed villages, blue-domed churches and spectacular sunsets overlooking the caldera. Formed by one of the largest volcanic eruptions in history, the island offers dramatic scenery unlike anywhere else in Greece, with towering cliffs, black sand beaches and breathtaking views across the Aegean Sea.

While many people visit Santorini for its famous sunsets, there’s so much more to discover. Explore charming villages, relax on unique volcanic beaches, sample local wines produced from grapes grown in volcanic soil, enjoy fresh seafood in traditional tavernas or simply spend time admiring the incredible scenery that changes throughout the day.

Whether you’re planning a romantic escape, a luxury honeymoon, a relaxing beach holiday or an island-hopping adventure, Santorini is a destination that leaves a lasting impression.

My Santorini Story

I deliberately chose Santorini for my 2019 holiday because I’d heard so much about its incredible beauty and wanted to see if it really lived up to the photographs.

It absolutely did.

I based myself in Perissa, where I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, beautiful black sand beach and welcoming local cafés. During my stay, I explored the island, admired the spectacular caldera views and experienced those famous Santorini sunsets that people travel from all over the world to see.

Santorini exceeded every expectation I had. It’s one of those rare destinations that really is as beautiful in person as it is in the brochures—and somewhere I’d happily return to in a heartbeat.
