My Stay in Luxor

When I visited Egypt in 1996, this hotel was operating as the Hilton Luxor. Although it has since become Iberotel Luxor by JAZ, it remains one of the most distinctive places to stay in the city thanks to its fantastic location on the banks of the River Nile.  

I spent ten nights here, giving me plenty of time to experience Luxor at my own pace rather than simply passing through on a tour.

A Hotel I’ll Always Remember

The feature that has stayed with me more than anything else is the hotel’s unique floating swimming pool and sun terrace on the Nile.

After spending the day exploring magnificent temples and ancient tombs, it was the perfect place to relax with views across the river towards the West Bank. Watching feluccas drift by while reflecting on everything I’d seen that day is one of my strongest memories from Egypt.

It’s easy to understand why this floating pool continues to be one of the hotel’s signature features today.  

An Excellent Base for Exploring

One of the reasons I enjoyed staying here so much was its location.

Situated on the East Bank of the Nile, it’s within easy walking distance of Luxor Temple, the Corniche, local cafés and shops, making it easy to explore independently. Karnak Temple is also only a short drive away, allowing me to spend my days discovering Luxor without feeling rushed.  

Today

Now operating as Iberotel Luxor by JAZ, the hotel still offers comfortable accommodation, restaurants overlooking the Nile and, of course, its famous floating pool. Whether you’re planning to explore Luxor independently, begin a Nile cruise or simply relax after a day of sightseeing, it remains a popular choice for visitors wanting to stay right on the river.
