Beyond Brașov
There’s far more to discover around Brașov than its beautiful medieval Old Town.
Step outside the city and the Carpathian Mountains quickly become the backdrop, with forests, mountain trails, traditional villages and spectacular scenery waiting to be explored.
Head up to Poiana Brașov, Romania’s best-known mountain resort, for hiking, mountain biking and outdoor adventures in summer, or skiing, snowboarding and a whole range of winter activities when the snow arrives.
Families can add a visit to Dino Parc Râșnov, one of Romania’s largest dinosaur parks, while history and folklore lovers can explore Bran Castle, Râșnov Fortress and the villages scattered throughout the surrounding valleys.
And then there is the wildlife. The forests of the Carpathians are home to brown bears, wolves, lynx and a remarkable variety of birdlife, offering some unforgettable opportunities for responsible wildlife experiences.
Whether you’re looking for mountain adventure, winter sports, family attractions, castles, wildlife or simply somewhere beautiful to escape to, the area around Brașov offers plenty to fill an itinerary.
Brașov may be the gateway — but the mountains are where the adventure really begins. 🐸⛰️
Poiana Brașov

Mountains, fresh air & four-season adventure
Just 12 km from Brașov, Poiana Brașov is Romania’s best-known mountain resort — and after recently spending time here, I can see why.
Set high in the Carpathians at around 1,030 metres, with Mount Postăvarul rising above the resort, Poiana Brașov is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery and forest. It is particularly famous as a winter sports destination, but there is plenty to experience throughout the year.

One of the things I really enjoyed about Poiana Brașov was taking the cable car up towards Mount Postăvarul.
The journey itself is part of the experience, climbing above the resort and forests into the mountains. As you get higher, the views open up across the Carpathians and the landscape really gives you a sense of just how beautiful this part of Romania is.
At the top, there are walking routes and viewpoints to explore, making it a great place to spend a few hours surrounded by mountain scenery.
And if all that fresh mountain air works up an appetite, there’s also a mountain restaurant at the top, making it possible to stop for something to eat or a drink while enjoying the views.

I took the cable car myself during my recent visit, and it was one of those simple experiences that I’d happily add to a Brașov itinerary — you don’t have to be a serious hiker or skier to enjoy the mountains.
