Casino Royale
A classic Bond adventure, with a very real-world setting.
If you’re a Bond fan, Casino Royale is a brilliant film to use as inspiration for a trip. Released in 2006, it was Daniel Craig’s first outing as James Bond and takes us through some fantastic locations across Europe and the Caribbean.
From Prague and the Bahamas to Montenegro and Italy, there are plenty of places to discover behind the scenes of the film — and many of them are places you can visit yourself.
So, if you’ve ever fancied following in Bond’s footsteps, take a look at the locations featured in Casino Royale and see where your own 007 adventure could take you.

The Locations Behind Casino Royale
One of the things I love about Bond films is that the locations are rarely quite as straightforward as they appear on screen. Casino Royale is a great example.
The film takes us from Montenegro to the Bahamas, Italy and beyond, but several of the locations you see on screen were actually filmed somewhere completely different. Filmmakers used a mixture of real locations, purpose-built sets and locations that could convincingly stand in for another country.
That’s part of the fun of exploring Bond locations — you can visit the places used in the filming, while also discovering the real destinations that inspired the story.
I’ve covered the individual destinations elsewhere on Discover the Frog, so here we’re concentrating on the Bond connection and the locations you can actually visit.
Because, let’s face it, a holiday with a little 007 thrown in is much more interesting! 🐸🍸

🇨🇿 Prague & Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic
Bond’s European backdrop
Prague and Karlovy Vary provided several of the film’s Czech locations, with the elegant architecture and historic streets helping create the atmosphere for Bond’s new adventure. Karlovy Vary’s famous Grandhotel Pupp also features prominently.

🏝️ The Bahamas
Tropical Bond territory
The Bahamas provided the perfect Caribbean setting for Casino Royale, with filming taking place around New Providence and Paradise Island. Turquoise waters, beautiful beaches and luxury resorts — not a bad place for Bond to find himself!

🇲🇪 Montenegro
The fictional home of Casino Royale
In the story, Bond travels to Montenegro for the high-stakes poker game at Casino Royale. The interesting part? Much of the fictional Montenegro was actually filmed elsewhere, including the Czech Republic.

🇮🇹 Lake Como
A very Bond-worthy escape
Lake Como appears towards the end of the film, providing one of those unmistakably beautiful Italian settings. With grand villas, mountains and the lake itself, it’s easy to see why this corner of Italy works so well on screen.

🇮🇹 Venice
The dramatic finale
Venice provides the spectacular backdrop for the film’s final act. The city’s canals, historic buildings and distinctive architecture make this one of those Bond locations that really needs no introduction.

🇬🇧 Pinewood Studios
Where the movie magic happened
Not everything in Casino Royale was filmed on location. Pinewood Studios in England played an important role, with sets and studio work helping bring some of the film’s most memorable scenes to life.
And that’s the fun of Bond locations — sometimes you’re visiting the place you saw on screen, and sometimes you’re discovering the real location hiding behind the movie magic. 🐸🎬
Your Casino Royale Adventure
You don’t have to be James Bond to travel like him! 😂
Whether you fancy exploring Montenegro, cruising the canals of Venice, relaxing beside Lake Como or combining several of these destinations into one tailor-made adventure, I can help put the pieces together.
And who knows — your next holiday might just have a little more Bond about it. 🐸🍸✈️
