Discover South Africa on two wheels

Experience the spectacular landscapes of South Africa’s Western Cape on an active 12-day small-group cycling adventure with Exodus.

Starting and finishing in Cape Town, this circular journey takes you from the vineyards and mountain passes of the Cape Winelands through the dramatic landscapes of the Little and Great Karoo, onwards to the southernmost point of Africa and along the spectacular Whale Coast.

With nine days of cycling, the route combines beautiful scenery with local experiences, wildlife and plenty of opportunities to discover the character of the Cape at a slower pace. The cycling is graded moderate, and a support vehicle accompanies the group, with bike hire included.

Highlights of the journey

🚲 Cycle through the Cape Winelands
Ride through vineyards around Stellenbosch and cross the spectacular Hellshoogte and Franschhoek Passes, with time to sample some of the region’s renowned produce.

🏔️ Discover the Karoo
Leave the vineyards behind as the scenery changes dramatically, travelling through the semi-arid landscapes of the Little and Great Karoo.

🌿 Wildlife & wilderness
Visit Bontebok National Park, home to bontebok, mountain zebra and a variety of birdlife, with opportunities to explore the park’s nature trails.

🌊 Reach the southernmost point of Africa
Cycle towards Cape Agulhas, where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet at the southern tip of the African continent.

🐋 Follow the Whale Coast
Continue towards Hermanus and along the spectacular coastline, with time to enjoy the scenery and the relaxed atmosphere of this famous whale-watching region.

🐧 Cape Peninsula
Explore the Cape Peninsula by bike, including a visit to a penguin colony, before heading back towards Cape Town.

⛰️ Chapman’s Peak & Cape Town
The final cycling day takes you along one of the Cape’s most spectacular coastal routes, passing Chapman’s Peak, Hout Bay and Camps Bay before finishing in Cape Town.
