India: Food & Culture 🇮🇳🍛

Food and culture are at the heart of any journey through India. Every region has its own flavours, traditions, festivals and way of life, making travelling through the country feel like discovering several different destinations in one.

From the fragrant spices and street food of Rajasthan to the coconut-rich dishes of Kerala and the vibrant flavours of Goa, Indian cuisine changes dramatically from one region to the next. Explore bustling markets, learn to cook traditional dishes, sample local specialities or simply sit down and enjoy a meal surrounded by the sights and sounds of everyday India.

And food is only part of the story. Discover colourful festivals, ancient temples, magnificent palaces, traditional crafts, music, dance and centuries-old customs, often alongside the people who continue to keep these traditions alive.

For me, this is one of the things that makes India so fascinating — the experiences away from the major sights can be just as memorable as the sights themselves. 🐸✈️

🇮🇳 North India

North Indian cuisine is known for rich curries, aromatic spices, tandoor cooking and freshly baked breads. Think butter chicken, fragrant biryanis, naan and smoky kebabs — with plenty of regional variations to discover.

🐪 Rajasthan

Rajasthan’s cuisine reflects its desert environment, with bold spices, distinctive vegetarian dishes and delicious street food. Try dal baati churma, spicy snacks and traditional thalis for a taste of the region’s culinary heritage.

🌴 Goa

Goan food brings together fresh seafood, fragrant spices and Portuguese influences. From spicy fish curries and grilled seafood to the famous vindaloo, Goa’s cuisine is as colourful and distinctive as the destination itself.

🌿 Kerala

Kerala’s cooking makes wonderful use of coconut, seafood, spices and fresh local ingredients. Enjoy fragrant curries, seafood dishes and traditional meals served on banana leaves — often accompanied by rice and an array of delicious little dishes.

🛕 South India

South Indian cuisine is wonderfully varied, with dosa, idli, sambar, chutneys and regional specialities forming just part of the story. From crispy dosas at breakfast to spicy curries and elaborate vegetarian meals, food is an essential part of experiencing the south.

🛍️ Markets & Street Life

Some of India’s most memorable experiences happen away from the major sights. Wander colourful markets, browse local crafts, follow the aromas of street food and discover the energy of everyday life in India’s towns and cities.

🌿 Tea, Spices & Chai

From misty tea plantations to bustling spice markets, discover the ingredients and flavours that have shaped Indian cuisine for centuries. Stop for a steaming cup of chai, visit a plantation or learn more about the spices behind your favourite dishes.

🎉 Festivals & Traditions

India’s calendar is filled with colour, music, food and celebration. From the vibrant colours of Holi and the lights of Diwali to regional festivals and traditional ceremonies, these experiences offer a fascinating insight into India’s diverse cultures and traditions.

👣 Beyond the Sights

India isn’t just about seeing the Taj Mahal or ticking famous landmarks off a list. It’s the people you meet, the unexpected experiences, the food you taste and the moments you weren’t planning for that can become the memories you bring home.
