InterContinental Athénée Palace
A Grand Dame of Bucharest
If hotels could tell stories, the Athénée Palace would have enough for several books.
With more than a century of history and a wonderful position overlooking Revolution Square and the Romanian Athenaeum, this is a hotel with real character. Today, the historic setting is combined with contemporary rooms, modern comforts and the service you would expect from InterContinental.
It’s one of those rare hotels where the experience is every bit as impressive as the destination itself, and one I’d happily return to whenever I visit Bucharest again.

My Personal Experience
I stayed at two different hotels during my time in Bucharest, and the InterContinental Athénée Palace was, without question, my favourite.
From the moment I arrived, everything felt special. The welcome was warm and professional, the service was excellent throughout my stay, and there was an unmistakable sense of history and elegance that made it feel like much more than simply somewhere to sleep.
The location is another big attraction. Being right in the heart of Bucharest meant I could step outside and explore the city on foot, before returning to the comfort of the hotel afterwards.
For me, this is the sort of hotel that becomes part of the trip itself.
If you’re planning a Bucharest city break and want somewhere with history, character and a touch of luxury, this is one I’d happily recommend — and one I’d return to myself.
