When Can You Travel on Rocky Mountaineer?
Rocky Mountaineer operates seasonally, with journeys typically running from April through October, when the Canadian Rockies are at their most spectacular. Each month offers a different experience, from snow-capped peaks in spring to vibrant autumn colours later in the season.
🌷 April
The season begins as the mountains emerge from winter. Snow still blankets many of the higher peaks, waterfalls are full, and popular destinations are generally quieter.
🌼 May
One of the best months for dramatic mountain scenery, with fresh greenery, rushing rivers and excellent wildlife spotting. Bears are becoming more active after hibernation.
☀️ June
Long daylight hours provide even more time to enjoy the spectacular scenery. Wildflowers bloom across the Rockies, and temperatures are comfortably warm.
🌞 July
Summer is in full swing, bringing warm weather and crystal-clear mountain views. This is one of the most popular months to travel, so booking well in advance is recommended.
🏔️ August
Expect sunny days, turquoise lakes at their most vibrant and excellent opportunities to spot wildlife. Another peak travel month with lively mountain towns.
🍁 September
Often considered one of the very best times to travel. The forests begin turning shades of gold and red, temperatures are pleasant, and there are fewer visitors than in mid-summer.
🍂 October
The final journeys of the season offer crisp autumn air, colourful landscapes and peaceful mountain scenery before winter arrives.
Best Time to Travel
Every season has its own appeal, but May, June and September are often regarded as the best months for combining beautiful scenery, comfortable temperatures and fantastic wildlife viewing. If you’re looking for the warmest weather and vibrant mountain resorts, July and August are excellent choices.
