Welcome to San José
Nestled in the Central Valley and surrounded by mountains, San José is the vibrant capital of Costa Rica and the perfect place to begin your adventure. While many visitors pass through on their way to the country’s rainforests and beaches, it’s well worth spending a couple of nights discovering the city’s culture, history and world-famous coffee.
San José offers an excellent introduction to Costa Rican life. Wander through bustling markets, admire historic architecture, visit fascinating museums and enjoy the city’s growing food scene. It’s also an ideal base for day trips, with volcanoes, cloud forests, waterfalls and coffee plantations all within easy reach.

One of my favourite experiences during my visit was taking a coffee plantation tour. Costa Rica is renowned for producing some of the world’s finest coffee, and it was fascinating to learn about the journey from bean to cup. I enjoyed tasting different coffees, discovering the roasting process, trying my hand at coffee making and, of course, browsing the shop afterwards to stock up on some incredible Costa Rican coffee to bring home.
