Spain
Spain is one of Europe’s most popular destinations, but there’s far more to discover than its famous beaches and bustling resorts. From vibrant cities and medieval towns to dramatic mountain landscapes, world-class cuisine and a rich cultural heritage, Spain offers endless opportunities to travel Beyond the Ordinary.
My first visit to Spain was in 2017, when I chose a twin-centre holiday combining Málaga with the whitewashed town of Torrox on the Costa del Sol. Torrox had caught my attention after seeing a hotel featured on a UK television programme with Alex Polizzi, and it proved to be exactly the kind of authentic destination I enjoy discovering.
I began my trip in Málaga, staying in the heart of the historic centre. It was the perfect location for exploring the city’s beautiful streets, impressive cathedral and lively atmosphere, especially as I only had a short time there. One of my favourite discoveries was finding a café serving freshly made churros with rich hot chocolate just around the corner from my hotel—a wonderful way to start the day.

From there, I travelled to Torrox, where life moved at a much gentler pace. The charming town square, lined with cafés and restaurants, became the perfect place to relax and soak up the atmosphere. Colourful umbrellas stretched overhead, providing welcome shade while locals and visitors gathered to enjoy long lunches and warm Mediterranean evenings.
I’ve since returned to Spain to Barcelona before joining cruises. As one of Europe’s busiest cruise ports, Barcelona is an excellent destination to explore before or after your voyage. With its remarkable architecture, vibrant neighbourhoods, fantastic food scene and beautiful waterfront, it’s a city that deserves far more than a single overnight stay.
Whether you’re looking for a relaxing beach escape, an exciting city break, a food and wine adventure, or a journey through Spain’s diverse regions, this remarkable country has something for every traveller. At Discover the Frog, I can help you plan a holiday that goes Beyond the Ordinary—whether that’s discovering hidden villages, exploring Spain by rail, combining several regions into one unforgettable itinerary or finding those special experiences that turn a good holiday into an exceptional one.
