Stockholm – Sweden’s Beautiful Capital

Built across 14 islands and connected by more than 50 bridges, Stockholm is often described as one of the world’s most beautiful capitals. Surrounded by water and green spaces, it perfectly combines historic charm with modern Scandinavian design, making it an ideal destination for a city break or the start of a wider adventure through Sweden.

At the heart of the city is Gamla Stan (Old Town), one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval centres. Wander through its narrow cobbled streets, colourful buildings and hidden squares, where you’ll find cosy cafés, independent shops and historic landmarks including the Royal Palace and Stockholm Cathedral.

One of my favourite experiences was taking a boat trip through the Stockholm Archipelago. With around 30,000 islands, islets and skerries, it’s a spectacular landscape of forests, rocky coastlines and charming seaside villages. Whether you choose a short sightseeing cruise or spend the day exploring one of the islands, it’s an unforgettable way to experience the city.

Stockholm is also home to world-class museums and attractions. Discover the beautifully preserved Vasa Museum, where a 17th-century warship has been restored after spending over 300 years beneath the sea, explore the interactive ABBA Museum, visit the open-air Skansen Museum, or simply enjoy the city’s waterfront promenades, parks and vibrant café culture.

Whether you’re interested in history, culture, food or simply soaking up the atmosphere, Stockholm is a city that’s easy to explore and leaves a lasting impression. For me, it was the combination of the beautiful Old Town and the incredible archipelago that made Stockholm such a memorable place to visit.
