The Marmorosch, Bucharest

A Hotel With a Story

The Marmorosch is much more than a beautiful five-star hotel — it occupies one of Bucharest’s most fascinating historic buildings.

Originally the headquarters of Marmorosch Blank & Co, one of Romania’s most important banks, the building was constructed between 1915 and 1923 during the bank’s most influential years. Designed by architect Petre Antonescu, it combines Neo-Romanian architecture with Byzantine and Gothic influences, while its richly decorated interiors reflect the elegance of the era.

The building was created to make an impression, and more than a century later, it still does.

After serving various financial institutions and standing unused for a number of years, the historic building underwent an extensive restoration before reopening in 2021 as The Marmorosch Bucharest, Autograph Collection.

Many of its original character and architectural details have been carefully retained, including the spectacular glass-roofed lobby and the former bank vault, now transformed into the atmospheric Vault Bar.

For me, The Marmorosch is exactly the kind of hotel that makes a trip feel a little more memorable.

I finished my Romania trip in March with two nights at The Marmorosch Bucharest, Autograph Collection — and what a way to finish the trip!

From the moment I walked into the spectacular glass-roofed lobby, I knew this was somewhere a little different. The building is a beautifully restored former bank, and the original Belle Époque character has been combined with contemporary luxury in a way that works incredibly well.

I loved the details throughout the hotel — the marble, ornate ceilings, huge windows and chandeliers — but the lobby was definitely my favourite space. It has a real sense of occasion, while still feeling like somewhere you can sit and enjoy a drink.

My room was stylish and comfortable, and after a busy few days exploring Romania, it was lovely to have somewhere that felt special to come back to.

The Marmorosch is also in a great location for exploring Bucharest, making it an easy choice for a city break.

I really enjoyed my two-night stay here, and it was the perfect final chapter to my Romanian adventure. If you’re looking for a Bucharest hotel with character, history and a little bit of luxury, this is one I’d be very happy to recommend.
